Educational Philosophy of the Island University

The Island University programs represent a radical departure from the traditional college or university and seek to serve the needs of mature adults professionals and managers who desire to accomplish their educational goals with minimum classroom attendance.

The Island University is committed to providing innovative programs at all levels to meet the needs of mature, self-motivated persons in all nations of the world.

Many of these mid-career individuals, for all practical purposes, have had the doors of traditional educational systems closed to them because of time and attendance requirements which can lead to the disruption of careers and crisis in families due to long periods of absence.

It is the objective of the Island University to provide a comfortable human environment in which people can grow, learn, develop and become what they are capable of becoming within the framework of its programs.

A positive approach to education is offered and personal attention is provided to help and assist in whatever way necessary to facilitate the completion of a specific educational objective.

In this jet age of advanced information and communication technology, the separation of teacher and pupil does not present the problems that existed in the past.

It is no longer indispensable for the teacher and pupil to be in close proximity before learning can take place effectively provided there is free-flow of information coupled with student counseling.

The Island University believes that what the student learns is more important than how and where the learning takes place.

Plato’s Academy, almost four centuries before Christ, stressed learning, free inquiry and the world of ideas. There were no walls, conceptual or physical.
